(Yesterday) Our site this year is W8, which means space 8 on the waterfront. The waterfront sites provide a lot of wide-open sky for our Internet satellite. Of course, Morgan loves being on the water! She spent yesterday in and out of the water and rolling in the snow. Our timeline for set-up was to be done by 6 p.m. - then dinner is on.
Jen cooked dinner for the crew: baked ham, mashed potatoes, mashed yams, gravy, baked beans, salad, and baby carrots. Wanda baked a great coconut cake. New owners, Joel and Holly, brought deviled eggs and fruit pizza (very yummy). Food never lasts long with this bunch of people! Claudia and I caught up on our winter activities. Now we are ready to get some work done.
(Today) First day of work at Howard Prairie. We met at 8 a.m. for our first meeting. The days plan were made and everyone set off to their specific duties. I headed off to the bowels of the restaurant.
The rooms and all equipemnt have been closed up for the winter. While Claudia cleaned the refrigerators and the grill area, I tackled the kitchen area. By 2 p.m. we had everything clean, set up and ready for our first order of groceries tomorrow.
Break time! We grabbed a drink, sat in the now clean dining room, and did some planning. We discussed schedules, what positions we need filled and who is going to do what. Claudia will still make the soups and I have gotten an old job back - making the cobblers.
Work camping at this wonderful place is a blessing from God. I still marvel at being able to look out my "office" window to watch the waves on the lake or the eagles looking for food. I see God's hand in all put in my path. In Romans 8:28 He tells us 'that all things work together for good to them called of God.' I love counting my blessings, and HP, my boss and the staff are blessings. I pray God helps me to shine my light for His glory in this small community. Tomorrow, my feet hit the ground running. We are ready to rock and roll for 2007!
Wednesday April 11
I have been sitting at my computer for an hour now. My computer is in our back window, so I can look out on the lake and watch the waves, ducks and geese. So far, in this hour, two storms have blown in as a mist and rain has poured down. One storm brought small hail. Right now the sun is shining. When I came home from work at 12:30, the sun was out and it was quite warm. Only in Oregon!
The discussion over the prep table this morning was where did the saying 'like white on rice' come from. None of us knew and upon searching the Internet I am still clueless. Claudia brought up the question and then that night as I was reading my mystery novel, the remark was used about the thug being on the victim like white on rice. We had a good chuckle over that. As you probably have experienced in one way or another, much of the world's problems get solved over our prep table in the kitchen!
We are finished with prepping for the next couple of days. We have Thursday and Friday off.
Larry and LaGene made it up today. It was so nice seeing them. Larry works here in the store and LaGene and I have become good friends. She just lost her sister to cancer, so if you can remember, send a prayer to our Lord for this family.
Dale and I took a walk yesterday. It was so nice out and we have to take advantage of the nice days. We hiked down to the south campground and took the trail that goes to Willow Campground. This picture was taken at one of our stops along the way.
As you can see, Mt McLaughlin still has plenty of snow on it. Click here or the photo for large view'
Our walk was wonderful but I was tired when we finished. Being on my feet for 6 hours and then hiking a couple of miles took its toll.
Since Dale and I are heading to Salem next Tuesday to pick up our Carriage Cameo, I think I will do some deep cleaning on the King on my days off and get it ready to hand over to Wagers RV. Dale and I are so excited to be getting our new home on wheels! This has been an anxious 10 weeks.
April 13
So far so good on this unluckiest day of days. Wikipedia says that there is an actual name for fearing Friday the 13th. It is paraskavedekatriaphobia and derived from Friday, thriteen and phobia respectively. There are several popular stories that exist about the orgin with the newest one coming out of the Da Vinci Code. Actually, the first mention of Friday the 13th is documented in the early 1900's. You can go here to see a chart of what months will have a Friday the 13th.
Now to business. It dawned on me today that we, Dale and I, have been living in our RV fulltime for one year now. Our 2006 camping season beings here if you are interested in reading and viewing photo's of our year in the King. It doesn't feel possible that our dream of RVing fulltime has happened. Now, we wait for the time Dale retires and we move on down the road to experience the USA.
My two days off have allowed me to get back into the Howard Prairie mood. I did laundry yesterday - a nice walk to the bottom of the hill. It snowed the night before and got down into the 20's. The sun came out and it all melted and hit 43 degrees. Today, the wind is blowing, white caps on the lake and a big 57 degrees. Still cold out though.
Over the last month I have been working on my digital scrapbook album of our Arizona vacation. It is finally done and I am trying to learn how to upload it to our site as a filmstrip. Photoshop Elements 5.0 has a way to do this. New to me, but I am learning. The biggest lesson is waiting for FTP to load it to the site. I hope to have it all up ASAP. I will link to it when it is finished.
I am waiting for Dale to come home with pizza. Tonight is date night but we decided to stay home. Howard Prairie is a great place for a date.

This is the back window of our rig and where my desk is. This was my view on Wednesday morning. About mid afternoon an airplane buzzed down and skimmed the lake. It rounded out around Doe Island.

Can you see it in the blue box? Was pretty cool! I don't know if it was going to land somewhere, but I bet those in the plane enjoyed the scenery!
I also caught this black bird swinging and swaying in the wind on the TV dish.

I love living here!
